Why Can’t I Drink Soda Every Day? – Part Two

At Advanced Surgical and Weight Loss Institute of Melbourne, FL we care about your health.  Every day we see the effects that poor dietary choices can have on your health.  That’s why we want to warn you against the “dangers” of regular soda drinking.  In the previous blog, we focused on the different sweeteners that sodas contain.  In this blog, we want to focus on the overall health issues that soda can cause.

Cavities

Anything containing sugar can affect your dental health as sugar loves to help make cavities.  The problem with sodas is that many of them contain more sugar than you should partake of in an entire day with all your food and drinks combined. According to Healthline, “sugar provides easily digestible energy for the bad bacteria in your mouth.”  Your dentist will be thrilled if you stop regularly drinking soda!

Health Issues

The sugar content in soda is your main adversary when it comes to drinking soda on a regular basis.  High levels of sugar intake are linked to a myriad of health issues from gout to dementia!  Those are some serious health issues and should not be taken lightly.  If, by simply cutting soda out of your diet, you would help lower the risk of such serious health issues, why wouldn’t you do it?

We know one reason you might struggle with dropping soda as a daily drink is if you are drinking caffeinated sodas, then you may now have a bit of caffeine addiction.  If you take in a fair amount of caffeine daily and then lower that amount significantly, you may experience headaches temporarily.  Those headaches will subside as your body adjusts to less caffeine.

Weight Gain

Because soda is high in calories and sugar it is bad for your waistline, plain and simple.  Those two things combined are a lethal combination when it comes to losing or maintaining weight.  According to the Food Revolution Network, soda has been linked to a heightened risk of cancer, asthma, heart disease, and weight gain.

Dehydration

Additionally, soda dehydrates you which is never good.  Hydration is an essential part of your daily health.  It is for this reason that doctors will always tell you that nothing beats good, old-fashioned, natural water.  We know water can get boring.  There are carbonated waters with natural fruit flavoring that have zero calories, zero carbs, and zero sugars.  These are a nice alternative so that you aren’t drinking plain tap water all the time.  You might be surprised that you miss soda less than you expected!  And, often, when people do try soda again after going without it for a while, they don’t enjoy it as much.

At Advanced Surgical and Weight Loss Institute, we know it can be hard to change old habits.  Sugar and caffeine are a pretty powerful duo.  But, you are stronger than they are, and you can defeat their hold on you.  If you would like help changing your dietary habits and getting your weight to a healthy level, then please call us.  We would love to be a part of your pursuit of health and well-being.  We are located in Merritt Island in Brevard County.  We specialize in a variety of rapid weight loss and bariatric surgeries.  We also offer weight loss programs in Melbourne, FL.
